Monotypes and monoprints are “singular” one-of-a-kind and unique art works. Dating back to the 17th century, the monotype process offers the artist an opportunity for direct visual expression using hand-pulled techniques. Besides being the opposite of many or plural, “singular” can mean extraordinary or spectacular as in a “singular experience”. Something that surprises can be singular. It can also refer to being unusual or strange, as in a “singular behavior”. The project includes an exhibition of more than 20 artists from Western Massachusetts, a live printmaking demonstration, an opening reception, and a public ArtTalk with several of the artists. "Singular" is a special Western Mass regional exhibition of the Monotype Guild of New England (MGNE).
